Million Dollar Tip of the Day

by Andrew

Want to make money online? Want to make a lot of money online? Work 7 days a week. My first year I made nothing, my second year I scraped by, my third year I beat what a college degree would have earned me, and now my fourth year, well, its looking good.

When confronted with the choice between a modest income right now that will grow linearly and a horrible income with exponential growth many people take the first choice.

To be a successful web site owner you need to take that second path and work really hard at it. There a lot of hobbyists in this business. I have another word for them: broke. There’s nothing wrong with that. Whats wrong is thats where they will still be 5 years from now.

  1. I’m in year one, I work 7 days a week from the time I get up, until it’s time for me to go to bed. I’m scraping by. I’m looking at the “second path” noted in your post - working towards it… day by day…

  4. My first year is almost over and I have made $856.64 so far… It is very small I know, But I have learned so much. Year 2, I am looking at about $5,000 - $8,000… It my first year considered low?

  5. Good article. Why is it that so many people think they can get rich quick online? Rewards come only after hard work. This is true both online and offline.

  6. Great advice.

I would like to add a bit to it as well.

Don’t slack off after your first or second year once you start making good money. I let a lot of my sites go after the first two years because I was doing great and they’ve greatly declined and I’m having to pick them up again, and start adding new content. What I’ve learned is not to let things that are popular become not, and make sites (for long term) that interest you and that you WILL be able to update. It’s ok to make some sites for the money but most of the time they wont hold your interest for the long-term.

  7. […] Chris over at Website Publisher Blog has published an open letter to Tribal Fusion. I think this is a good letter. I work with Tribal Fusion over at PCMech, and I have two major complaints about it. (1) Their ads are poorly targeted and poor quality in many cases, (2) their interface is just plain annoying. Not long ago, I was approached by them to use their interface as the primary ad server for my domain. There are some plus-points to that, considering their ad system is superior to the one I use. However, they would give preference to their own ads and all of my ads would be filler. That’s not what I want, especially considering I would be losing out to stupid “punch the money” ads! Chris’s point is perfect: Tribal needs to provide more control over the ads to it’s publishers. And to sum it up, here is a post by Andrew over at Web Publishing Blog which echos my thoughts exactly. It is your Million Dallar tip of the day. […]

  10. I just started with this whole blogging nonsense this year and it has become my passion! I’m not seeing any profit at all. Actually I’ve got a really small goal of being able to cover my ISP hosting fees ($10/month). I did $7 last month so I’m almost there!

Small steps I know, but I’m loving the journey. I thought I’d have to search for things to blog about but I actually have a huge list of things to blog about. I have to mark some off the list because they become stale after a while.

    Well, thanks for the encouragement!
